A review of 2007 and preview for 2008

Looking back at 2007, one of the most significant toy events here in Singapore has to be the sudden revived interest in collecting Transformers toys due to the release of the Transformers movie in July 2007.  The resale toy market here had been ‘flooded’ with the Transformers movie toys since just before the movie release.  The local toy collectors tend to follow a trend.  Many years ago, everyone was collecting X-men Animated action figures. Then they moved on to Batman Animated action figures, Star Wars Movie action figures plus vehicles, and Justice League Animated action figures.  Now the in-trend movie toys to collect is still Transformers and the trend looks to be continuing into 2008, until the next big movie with exciting toy mechandise comes along to topple the Transformers movie toys from the top of the local toy chart.

G3 My Little Pony toy review from 2003 till 2007

When the G3 My Little Pony toyline started in August 2003, each pony came with her own brush, plus a pony charm with string to tie around her neck or tie to her brush.

Gradually since 2004, Hasbro did away with the pony charm and strings, and finally in 2007, the ponies do not even come with their own brushes anymore!  E.g. 2003 MIB Wysteria vs 2007 MIB Wysteria.

2003 MIB Wysteria with her own brush plus pony charm and string.2007 MIB Wysteria with only a hair clip.

I wonder how does Hasbro expect kids who are getting their first pony in 2007 and in the subsequent years to groom their ponies’ manes and tails?

My Christmas present arrived!

My long awaited Christmas present arrived from USA on Friday!  She is the 2007 Winter Pony Snow El, a pegasus pony.  I prefer to call her Snow Angel.  Here are her MIB photos, showing both the front and back views.  I love the artwork on her backcard, this being one of the best official G3 pony drawings done by Hasbro.

At the moment I cannot bear to remove Snow El a.k.a. Snow Angel from her box yet.  So she stays put in there for now.  Here is her catalog photo from Hasbro.

To buy or not to buy more toys?

While shopping at Orchard Road over the the weekend before Christmas, I came across a cool looking black-costume Spiderman action figure from the Spiderman 3 movie.  I do not collect the Spiderman movie toys.  However, I could not help admiring the attractiveness of its sleek black costume and its multi-articulation points, making it ’super-poseable’.  Black Spidey looks way better than its regular counterpart in red and blue costume.  So should I buy it?

You’ve got to believe it to see it!

I went to watch the movie ‘Mr Magorium’s Wonder Emporium’ on Christmas Day.  Although I felt that the movie lacked adequate action to make it more exciting for both adults and kids, the concept of the magical toy store was really good.  Most importantly the movie dealt with a very crucial lesson in life, that is, to believe in ourselves in whatever we do.

Hair care for She-Ra dolls and animals

I have little hair styling experience with human dolls.  Compared with My Little Pony, hair care for She-Ra dolls needs more effort as the dolls are smaller than the average ponies.  Hence the She-Ra dolls that I have in my collection mostly have straight hair.  Only my Clawdeen and Glimmer dolls still sport their original curly hair and my strategy is to keep them clean so that I never have to clean up their hair.

Christmas Day at Orchard Road

I spent Christmas Day visiting Orchard Road and taking some photos of the sights there.  I have not participated in such public festive events for a very long time.  I should have done more to make the most of life and its enjoyments.  Here are some photos to speak their thousand words!

The decorated facade of Wisma Atria along Orchard Road.

The giant Christmas Tree outside Paragon Shopping Centre is a hit with photo enthusiasts! The colourful giant angels perched on a lighted Christmas float parked along Orchard Road for photography sessions.

As usual whenever I am near near to department stores, I will check out their toy departments.  There were still shoppers buying toys and having them gift-wrapped on Christmas Day itself!  Talk about very last minute Christmas shopping!

Merry Christmas!

The Christmas Arch 'guarded' by toy soldiers at Orchard Road.

Christmas is here at last!  I hope everyone had a joyous time partying away safely into the nights and wee hours of the mornings.  I attended 2 fun Christmas parties this year and I look forward to go for more parties or even a holiday next Christmas.  My Christmas present will be late this year but I can wait.  When it arrives, I will post and show it on my blog to show everyone.  Meanwhile Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

From me and my entire toy collection of My Little Pony, She-Ra, X-Men, Marvel Heroes, Justice League, Lego knights and horses, Breyer and Schleigh horses, plus many many other more toys……!!

Christmas thoughts

While visiting Orchard Road last Thursday evening, I stopped by outside Tong Building and was mesmerized by the creative and hilarious musical skit called “Heavenly Hero, Chosen One”, performed by a church group.  It was a locally revamped version about the birth of Jesus Christ, heavily dosed with lots of olden Singapore, Old Shanghai and the odd Mexican flavours.  It lasted about an hour and I must say the performers did a wonderful job!

I was actually feeling not so enthusiatic about Christmas this year.  Since many years ago, Christmas to me was mainly shopping for Christmas exchange gifts, overspending on impulse items, being stuck with everyone else in overcrowded malls, being bombarded with endless streams of Christmas carols played in the stores and so forth.  Then the skit struck a chord in me and brought me back to the true meaning of Christmas.

For years I had sort of detached myself from the real world and it is only in the past 6 months did I gradually make efforts to find my true path in life.  I believe I have found my path and I hereby use the next Christmas in 2008 to measure the distance that I would have covered and progressed along my chosen path in the coming year.

Tis the season to shop for more toys!

It is the time of the year for Christmas shopping and one of the top selling items every year is toys!  Yes, parents are splurging their hard-earned year-end bonuses on their children and all children must have new toys to play with for Christmas.  It is like a tradition here for every Christmas, regardless of race or religion.  The final school exams had just ended 2 months ago here in Singapore and it is now the school holidays, from the end of November till New Year’s Day.

Orchard Road adorned with 'frosty-colored' lights to emulate the 'winter' festive season in sunny Singapore!

The festive mood is in full swing at the malls and every shopping area here in Singapore.  Christmas carols are being played continuously in the retail stores while shoppers browse amd shop.  Along Orchard Road (the main shopping street in Singapore), there are choirs, dances, skits and many other live performances lined up from this week till Christmas Eve to entertain everyone.  The whole street is aglow with the all the beautiful Christimas lightings on the trees and on the facades of the various malls.
