Fun with figurine display boxes - part 4

Having blogged about the uses of other popular plastic figurine display boxes (Type 1a & 1b, Type 2 & 3, Type 4 & 5) sold at Daiso, here we have Type 6 figurine display box.  I find that it’s the most versatile box of all!

Ponyville mini shelves display.

You can use it vertically like a series of mini shelves to display your collectible figurines.  The downside is that this display method is not dust free.

When you have many of these Type 6 display boxes, you can build and stack up a series of shelves in many shapes, preferably against a back support for better stability.

You can also place the boxes horizontally to segregate and organise your small stationery pieces on your desk or to store in your drawer.  The boxes are designed to be stacked up horizontally as well!  If you place the boxes horizonally with the open ’shelves’ faced down, the boxes can become a clear plastic ’stage’ for your collectibles!

If you really want to see much more various creative uses of all the figurine display boxes that I’ve blogged about so far, you can visit a toy store called Toy Outpost (situated at Plaza Singapura, 7th floor, diagonally opposite the Cinema box office).  It rents out locker-style shelf space to merchants to sell their toys and other items.  Many merchants sell tiny collectible figurines on consignment there and they use lots of different figurine display boxes as props to display their wares.

I also have some My Little Pony and Pokemon toys for sale there.  If you are keen to check out my sale items in person, they can be viewed in lockers 28E & 28F at Toy Outpost.  Just seek the help of the friendly store personnel at Toy Outpost if you need to examine the ponies up close or purchase them!

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie trailer 2

This long awaited movie (for fans of Wolverine, X-Men, Marvel Comics etc.) is now screening in the cinemas here in Singapore, starting from today (29 April 2009)!  I caught the movie this evening.  While it did not disappoint as an action movie, the plot sort of ’squeezed in’ too many other mutant characters into the limited screen time.  You’ve got to be very quick and sharp in identifying some of the minor background mutant characters.

There are 2 extra scenes after the movie, the 1st during the beginning of the ending credits, and the 2nd one at the end of ALL the very long ending credits.  By this time, everyone else had left the cinema that I was in.  As this is a prequel movie, I don’t find the info in the extra scenes significant, since most of us have seen the X-Men trilogy movies, which are supposed to be the future events of this Wolverine movie.

See my earlier blog posts on the “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie trailer 1, and its movie action figures already out in the departmental stores here in Singapore!

Fun with figurine display boxes - part 3

Daiso has quite a few different types of plastic display boxes for figurines, other collectibles and even medals.  Following my earlier blog posts on the Type1a & 1b, and Type 2 & 3 display boxes sold at this store, today’s blog post continues with the even smaller Type 4 & 5 display boxes available at Daiso for collectors!

Fun with figurine display boxes - part 2

Following yesterday’s blog post about the versatile use of Daiso’s display boxes for small collectible figurines, here are my findings for the other popular smaller sized display boxes from the same store.

Ponyville stacked up display.

Here’s a couple of smaller (I call these ‘Type 2′) display boxes for Ponyville figurines.  Like the Type 1a and Type 1b display boxes featured in  yesterday’s blog post , they can be stacked up to save space!

The smaller Type 2 display box in package.  Being shorter in height than the Type 1a and Type 1b display boxes featured in  yesterday’s blog post , this Type 2 display box is originally designed for mini toy cars.

Fun with figurine display boxes - part 1

Recently I acquired some figurine display boxes to display my Pokemon figurines for sale in my toy lockers.  After I sold off a number of Pokemons, I experimented on the different uses of the display boxes with the small toys in my collection.  Below are my findings:

Ponyville picnic display.

The flat base (Type 1a) figurine display box is great for toy scenes.

Ponyville core 7 characters group display.

The stepped base (Type 1b) figurine display box is suitable for multiple figurines.

“Wolverine and the X-Men” action figures - wave 3

Wolverine and the X-Men action figures on sale.

This is wave 3 of the action figures based on upcoming “Wolverine and the X-Men” cartoon series.  According to our local Okto channel, we viewers in Singapore will be the first in Asia to watch this new animated series on TV!

Forge and Toad are the only 2 new characters in this wave 3.  It’s really disappointing cos I don’t care for these 2 characters.  I want the rest of X-Men team members made into action figures, and not every other non X-Men mutant that appears in the show.

Iceman in costume, and Logan in white short will appear in wave 4 (July 2009).  That’s so ‘exciting’.  Well, at least I know I won’t end up spending too much on these 3.75-inch action figures (priced at SGD 18.90 each).  It’s in a way, a blessing a disguise!

The Unstoppable Force of the Star Wars Shoppers

Whenever I see this set of Star Wars Legacy Collection action figures, I’ll never forget the day I saw the Star Wars fans force descend upon them like a ‘human tidal wave’!  It happened 3 weekends ago when I first spotted the second wave of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie action figures in a local departmental store.

Star Wars Legacy Collection action figures - wave 5.

On that ‘fateful’ day, I had just arrived at the toy section of a departmental store and I was about to walk past the Star Wars section (where the pegs were full of figures from the above series).  Then out of nowhere, a group of 5-6 guys (from young ones who look like students to those in their 30’s) walked very swiftly towards the ‘beckoning’ Star Wars figures.  I forgot to mention - there was a sign there that read: “Buy any 2 Star Wars Figures for SGD 25.00″.

The ‘raiding party’ quickly swept past me and within seconds, each of them had picked up an armful of Star Wars figures.  I wasn’t sure if this group of Star Wars shoppers knew one another but there was an orderly sort of competition for certain ‘prized’ figures.  As there were plenty of figures of every character there for everyone, each of them kept politely to their own space and would then switch places with the next guy, as if there was some sort of unspoken system in place.

The good news is that nobody came to ‘disturb’ me in the next aisle where I was looking at the 3.75-inch Wolverine movie action figures (which unfortunately weren’t on that kind of offer).  A Star Wars shopper came over to the “Wolverine aisle” to examine his armful of Star Wars figures.  (Ah, he used the “grab first, select later” strategy, which I tend to use at warehouse toy sales!)

I managed to glance at his selections and they were all multiples of the Star Wars figures that were adorned in the trooper uniform.  It’s perfectly understandable to want multiple troopers to form an army of them.  But to buy more than 1 of Luke, Han Solo and the other human (dunno what’s his name) in storm trooper uniform?  In the end he left 2 figures of Luke in trooper uniform at the “Wolverine aisle” and left.  Maybe he needed to go the ATM machine first.

Anyway after like 15-20min, the Star Wars raiding party had made their purchases and left, presumably to go ‘raid’ another departmental store along Orchard Road.  In their aftermath, the Star Wars section was reduced by more than half!  At first glance, you could tell that the figures that wore the trooper uniforms were mostly gone!  You’d would have thought that you’ll only tend to see such shopping phenomenon amongst female shoppers at a ladies’ shoes sale.  Well the guys do it too, but more swiftly and more decisively.  They came, they saw and they bought them all!

Important lessons I learnt from that day are: If I ever see the sign that reads ”Buy any 2 Star Wars Figures for SGD 25.00″ at the Star Wars section of any departmental store again, I’ll make sure the coast is clear of any ‘tidal waves’ before going near or walking past it.  This is especially so if the section looks stocked up to the brim.  If the section looks quite empty, chances are that a ‘raiding party’ had already gone through it, so it’s ’safe’ to venture near!

Justice League action figures sale!

10-inch tall Justice League action figures on sale.

I was at Carrefour’s Suntec City outlet today and I came across this HUGE ‘mountain’ of 10-inch Justice League action figures on clearance sale!  There had to be close to 500 pieces available, and probably more in their store room.  I’ve never seen so many boxes of these figures at one go before!

According to the promotion tag, the usual price is SGD 24.90 each but now they are on special offer at SGD 14.90 each.  That’s about 40% discount!  At other departmental stores, I’ve seen these same figures of this series priced at SGD 29.90 each.

Here you get to see all the Justice League characters available in this series.  I saw all of them there, except for clear Martian Manhunter.  He could be available but I didn’t search those figures right in the middle of the ‘mountain’, in case I accidentally cause an ‘avalanche’, and especially when I was not planning on buying any of them.

So if you are interested, just make your way to Carrefour at Suntec City to pick up some of your favourite and most wanted Justice League characters.  I don’t know if the other Carrefour outlet at Plaza Singapura has this promotion though.  You can go there to check it out too if it’s convenient for you.

“X-Men Origins” movie action figures reviews

If you are still deciding whether to collect those 3.75-inch tall action figures, that are based on the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie, why not check out the video toy reviews done by other toys collectors who already have them?

These toys may be a bit pricey for their size and limited articulation, but if you are an X-Men and Marvel Comics fan, it’s still worth picking up a few of your most favourite characters.  After all, the popular ones are flying off the shelves and pegs of most departmental stores and toy shops very quickly.

3.75-inch Deadpool action figure review

Comments: I got myself this Deadpool figure after reading an online review that had lots of detailed photos!  Furthermore, he looks to be the most articulated figure in the series, and he comes with the most number of weapons.  Hence he’s the most value for money of the lot!

3.75-inch Gambit action figure review

Comments: Gambit was a confirmed purchase for me as he’s my second favourite X-Men character.  Plus this Gambit action figure looks very much like him.  That’s all I needed!

3.75-inch Maverick action figure review

Comments: Maverick was on my pending list for a long time.  After seeing this review and after spotting a loose one on display at a toy shop recently, I decided to let him make the cut into my action figures collection!

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Megazord and Dragonzord Toy Reviews

Do you remember these toys?  The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV series and their merchandise were very popular hot toys in the early 90’s!  The series subsequently went on and on till today, but of course the characters, their Zords, and their storylines have since undergone lots of changes.

I only watched the early series featuring the very first team of Power Rangers, consisting of Jason (Red Ranger), Tommy (Green Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger), Trini (Yellow Ranger), and Kimberly (Pink Ranger).  But after the producers changed the entire cast and re-wrote the story, I lost interest.  Nevertheless, their toys remain one of coolest ones ever made!
