Have you accidentally damaged your toy packaging?

ROTF Legends Devastator action figures.

Have you even encountered a scenario where you painstaking chose the best piece out of the many pieces of a certain toy at a store, only to accidentally ruin its pristine packaging yourself after you bought it?

Well, it happened to me quite a few times before.  On those unfortunate occasions, I had accidentally dropped the MIB or MOC toy; knocked the bag containing it against something along the way home, or I carelessly kicked it (it was placed on the floor) while walking about in my room.

After the efforts of selecting the creme de la creme, it was all ruined in split seconds just like that.  In the end I opened those toys and threw the imperfect packaging away.

How about you?  Has this happened to you as well?  Do feel free to share your experiences here!

Human Alliance Barricade with Frenzy action figures MIB

Here’s a preview photo of the up and coming Human Alliance (HA) Barricade with Frenzy action figures from the Transfomers Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) toyline.  Its expected retail release date is early next year.

At first, I didn’t think I would want to collect HA Barricade, but I’ll reconsider upon seeing his Mint-In-Box (MIB) photo.  Hopefully when he and Frenzy arrive in Singapore, their retail price would be reduced at the departmental stores, just like for all the rest of the ROTF toyline in the stores now!

Update: HA Barricade w/Frenzy have been spotted at some Singapore collector’s toy shops since end-December 09!

Update: Video review of HA Barricade with Frenzy available on YouTube now!  Let’s take a look at it!

Twilight dolls - Bella & Edward

Twilight dolls - Bella & Edward

It’s been a while since I noticed Mattel going into a movie toyline.  Usually it’s Hasbro that makes a lot of the movie toys.  There are Twilight action figures made by Neca, but I feel that the Mattel dolls (above) look better.

From the above photo, the main characters of Twilight - Bella & Edward look quite attractive, though not really made in close likeness to the actress and actor.  I like their clothes because of the closer resemblance to real life clothes, instead of the “pinky” ones that Barbie adorns herself with.

I caught the first Twilight movie, and I look forward to seeing its upcoming sequel ”The Twilight Saga: New Moon“.  The release date for “New Moon” is 20 November 2009!

Avatar movie & toys preview

This is upcoming epic movie is called Avatar.  It is scheduled for release on 18th December 2009.  I saw the trailers to this movie in the cinema recently and also noticed that its toyline is already selling at many online stores.

The main story storyline of Avatar is about a group of humans invading a moon planet called Pandora to extract some precious resource that fetches loads of money on earth.  But Pandora is inhabited by a race of blue-skinned natives (aka the Na’vis) who live exactly where the resources are located.  Like how in real life where humans have exterminated the natural wildlife and habitats on earth to extract mineral resources, the humans in the Avatar movie plan to do the same to the Na’vis.  And so the battle begins for both sides…

The interesting part about the Avatar toyline is that it has some imaginary humanoid beings and creatures.  I won’t know if the Avatar movie and merchandise will turn out to be successful at the box office and retail sales.  Only time will tell.  The above 6-legged horse-like creature reminds you of the 8-legged steed of the Norse God Odin, doesn’t it?  Except mainly this one has lesser legs.

Somehow the blue-skinned Na’vis and the other creatures of Pandora remind me of some parts of the Star Wars movies, where you can also find such similar characters.  The humans with their high tech weaponary in Avatar, kinda resemble the side of the Republic or Empire in Star Wars.  I think that the ending of the movie will be open ended to leave room for potential future sequels.  And it doesn’t look like there will be a straight forward ending to the plot either.

If I can, I’ll catch this movie at the cinemas next month when it’s screening.  I’d expect to see the Avatar movie toyline in the departmental stores anytime.  I’ve not visited the shopping malls for the past several weeks, so I can’t confirm if the Avatar movie toys have been released here yet.  Do drop me a note here if you do see them selling at our local stores!

ROTF Voyager Recon Ironhide & Bludgeon action figures (SGD 51.90)

Yes, they have landed at local departmental stores, where some of them are having storewide discounts too!  Video reviews of both Recon Ironhide and Bludgeon have been previously posted at my blog.  Just follow the links to view them.  Happy ROTF toy shopping!

Transformers Bumblebee Roto Bank

Transformers Bumblebee Roto Bank

Just not too long ago, I blogged about the Transformers Optimus Prime Bank.  Here’s his counterpart - Transformers Bumblebee Roto Bank!  I’m not a fan of the classic Transformers toyline.  I prefer the movie toyline instead, and I look forward to seeing a movie version of Bumblebee made as a coin bank!  Then I can use him to store my spare change and save up for more toys!

Product description:

  • “Classic Bumblebee!
  • Save your change!
  • Detailed rotocast bank!

This classic-style Transformers Bumblebee Bust Bank features an ultra-detailed sculpt by Chris Lee combined with durable rotocast PVC. This 6-inch tall bust bank will safeguard your valuable Energon Cubes or your hard-earned change with unwavering dedication just like the heroic Autobots themselves!”

ROTF Robot Heroes Scenes - wave 1

Doesn’t Robot Hero The Fallen look cool in the above photo?  I think he’s the most worth it to get for this wave 1 of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) Robot Heroes!  I don’t usually take much notice of the Robot Heroes series but sometimes, certain individual figures turn out to look quite cute!

ROTF Robot Heroes Scenes - wave 2

Robot Heroes toys are more suited for little kids who are too young to play with the regular Transformers toys that can “transform”, lest they break the toys.  Robot Heroes toys also make great display pieces, provided you don’t mind that they are sculpted to look a bit more “cartoonish” than what they look like in the live action ROTF movie.

Locally, these ROTF toys can be found at the departmental stores, and also at collector toy shops like Simply Toys.  Currently, many ROTF toys are also on discounts (up to 20-30% off) at the departmental stores.  If you are keen, go and get them now while stocks of your favourite Transformers toys last!  Happy ROTF toy shopping!

How the ROTF movie should have ended…

I came across this YouTube video on Transformers Live Action Movie Blog and found its contents quite hilarious.  The video addresses some of the commonly discussed plot holes in the movie.  I also like its cute animation style, plus the dialogues manage to bring out the humour as well.  There are other HISHE (How It Should Have Ended) videos posted on YouTube, but I still like the ROTF one best!  Enjoy the video!

ROTF Voyager Mindwipe toy review

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) Voyager Mindwipe

Expected retail price: SGD 51.90

Mindwipe’s robot mode reminds me of ROTF Deluxe Sideways and he’s also taller than the average ROTF Voyager figures in their robot modes.  I think only ROTF Voyager The Fallen’s robot height can match that of Mindwipe.  Overall, Mindwipe’s black and red colors look quite contrasting, though I would prefer the “pale gold” parts to be in silver instead.

I don’t recall seeing Mindwipe’s jet mode appear in the ROTF movie, or maybe it did but I didn’t notice it.  Nevertheless this high tech looking plane looks quite nice on its own.  If I’m not mistaken, it’s some sort of advanced pilotless spy plane.  It would have been cool if Mindwipe had made an appearance in the ROTF movie.  Perhaps he might star in the 3rd Transformers movie instead!

This toy is scheduled for retail release early next year.  Perhaps by then, the local retail price could have dropped due to the ROTF toys starting to go on clearance sale since last month.  Till then, happy ROTF toys shopping!

ROTF Leader Starscream toy review

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) Leader Starscream

Expected price: SGD 109.90

I didn’t expect the video review of ROTF Leader Starscream to be available online so soon.  According to the reviewer, this particular piece is a prototype without the electronic functions.  Nevertheless, you still can view the transformation process and have a good view of both the jet and robot modes.

Overall ROTF Leader Starscream doesn’t seem as impressive as seen in the early photo of this toy.  Well at least he doesn’t have his hands showing from under his “tail” while in jet mode.  That’s my pet peeve about the ROTF Voyager Starscream.  And ROTF Leader Starscream is finally in scale with ROTF Leader Megatron and Optimus Prime!
