Are you a “set completer” type of toy collector?

G1 My Little Pony display cabinet - 4 shelves.

As I look through my still rather large G1 My Little Pony toy collection, I realise that many of them were acquired back then because I wanted to collect all the ponies in the respective series.  Most of the time, I only liked 1 or 2 of the ponies in those sets, but the “completist” mind in me back then just had to have the whole set to make my collection “complete”.  Hence I ended with a larger herd than I can comfortably manage.

What about you?  Are you a “set completer” type of toy collector too?  Feel free to share your comments here!

This set of G4 My Little Pony toys each come equipped with a “saddle” accessory that contains a push button on the ponies’ backs.  The button will activate a “light up” function on the ponies. E.g. Rarity’s horn, Pinkie Pie’s necklace and Rainbow Dash’s wings are able to light up.

Like the other local pony fans and collectors, I really hope to see this new series of pony toys in our departmental stores and toy shops soon!  Happy toys collecting!

Well I’m not a fan of playsets as I’m mostly interested in the ponies themselves but nevertheless, the accessories are great for little kids to play with their ponies as what they have seen in the cartoon series.

I still have not seen the G4 pony toys in our local departmental stores yet.  They are already selling in the US, Canada and parts of Europe.  I hope to see them on our shores soon as well!

G4 My Little Pony Princess Celestia

G4 My Little Pony Princess Celestia .

G4 My Little Pony Princess Celestia

This G4 My Little Pony character is larger in size than all the other G4 ponies as featured in the new G4 My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic animated series

In the show and also seen on the toy packaging artwork, Princess Celestia is shown as having a white body with large white wings.  Her forelock and tail, legs and accessories colors remain largely the same colors as this toy.  The mane colors on the toy has more purple and magenta in it than in the cartoon.

It seems that Hasbro is convinced that a pink pony will sell better than a white pony.  This reminds me of the 80’s She-Ra cartoon series where her winged unicorn Swift Wind was white in the show but sold in pink color as a toy.

Nonetheless, I hope that Hasbro will release a white version of Princess Celestia with large white and non flimsy wings some day!

The G4 My Little Pony Story Pack series are ponies that come with accessories for the owner to enact a storyline, using the accessories provided with the ponies.  Basically the ponies look quite the same as the same character ones from other sets, so it depends on what kind of accessories that you like most to come with you ponies, before you decide which sets to buy.

Since both sets cost the same, I think that the set with 2 ponies looks to be the better deal, unless you have a soft spot for pony accessories.  Their big round eyes and huge mouse-like ears make them look rather endearing, despite losing most of their original pony look, LOL!  I’m really looking forward to seeing the G4 My Little Pony toyline in our local departmental stores soon!

Here we have another series of G4 My Little Pony figures that come with Pony Fashion Wear to dress up your ponies and make them look more stylish, which is an obvious intention to rival Barbie Doll from rival  Mattel!  Hasbro figured that their target market of little girls aged 5-7 like cute little animals and love to play dress up, so this should be a ‘winning’ combination to hit the right note.

Well, depending on the angle of looking at these new G4 ponies in their new molds, my fellow pony collector friends and I find that they look more like deer that have faces of mice, LOL!  Overall these G4 ponies still look adorable and should appeal to fans and collectors who like cute animals.  So far the response of the US pony collectors to these ‘revolutionary’ G4 ponies have been quite positive!

I definitely hope to see these G4 ponies in our local departmental stores soon, rather than to have to specially import them myself.  If Hasbro Singapore hasn’t given up on the My Little pony toyline, despite the dismal local and global market response to the previous G3.5 My Little Pony series.  If the US pony collectors love the new G4 ponies, I expect the local kids and collectors would as well.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed that these new ponies will be in our departmental stores soon!

Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity & Rainbow Dash.

We’re now more than halfway onto January 2011.  Since the end of last year, the above new Generation 4 (G4) My Little Pony toys had only appeared in US stores so far.  I have been checking our local departmental stores in hopes of seeing them sold here, but I’ve only found old stocks of the big headed humanoid Newborn My Little Pony toy series..

The online My Little Pony collecting community refer to these as G4 ponies because of the completely different sculpt and molds from the previous G3 & G3.5 series.   The G3 and G3.5 ponies shared the same core 7 pony characters that were remade over and over again to ‘death’, until most pony collectors no longer cared.

The latest G4 ponies used back some of the G3 core 7 pony characters and names (e.g. Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity and Rainbow Dash)  but changed some of their colors and personalites.  Other re-introduced pony characters were brought back from the G1 ponies of the 80’s, such as Applejack.

The above G4 My Little Pony figures that come with their own cute little animal pets, are just slightly bigger than a G1 Baby Pony.  There are bigger G4 My Little Pony figures of the same characters from other G4 pony series, but this is among the smaller ones that the US market has seen till now.  If I can only get one of them, I’ll like to have a Rainbow Dash pony as I like her colors and her personality in the cartoon series the best!

Hopefully Hasbro Singapre will bring in the G4 My Little Pony.  Happy waiting for these ponies to land on our shores some day!

The early waves of Voyager, Deluxe and Legends RTS toys have began to hit our local departmental stores since last month.  However, the retail pricing for the RTS Voyager and Deluxe figures are back to SGD 51.90 and SGD 27.90 respectively, instead of the deep discounts of SGD 29.90 and SGD 16.90 that we enjoyed for the previous Hunt For The Decepticons (HFTD) Voyager & Deluxe figures respectively

If you are keen on the new RTS toyline, it pays to wait it out till the Dark Of The Moon (DOTM) start to make their appearances sometime from May 2010.  The DOTM movie will screen worldwide in July 2010.  Happy waiting and toys collecting!

HFTD Human Alliance - Jazz and Shadow Blade Sideswipe

Following my earlier blog postings on Hasbro’s latest Transformers Hunt for the Decepticons (HFTD) Human Alliance (HA) toys sighted in local departmental stores over the past few weeks, they are still namely Jazz (SGD 49.90 each at TRU only) and Shadow Blade Sideswipe, priced at SGD 69.90 each.  Nothing newer than these yet.  I’m still waiting for further discount on HA Jazz and get him at some later date!  Happy HFTD toys collecting!
