Bburago Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera review

Well I normally get my toys during a sale but I couldn’t resist upon seeing these 2 Bburago Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggeras (1:24 scale) selling at a departmental store on Friday.  Fortunately I had some store vouchers with me and I used them to get these 2 model cars at a ‘discount’.  Actually I was hoping to save those vouchers for non-toy stuff that I could use, but oh well, I used them anyway.

I find that it would be easy for Bburago to make the 1:24 scale Superleggera because they could have easily re-used the same mold for the Gallardo.  They just needed to change the boot cover and sports rims.  However there were indeed some slight differences in the new 1:24 scale Superleggera mold.

Firstly, the Superleggera’s bonnet cover can no longer be opened like in the Gallardo.  I want back the bonnet that can be opened!

Secondly, the Superleggera’s boot cover can now open to more than 90 degrees angle.  That allows you to view its miniature engine more clearly.

Thirdly, the Superleggera’s car doors are now hinged in a different way that somehow gives you the ominous feeling that they might threaten to scrape off the paint of its hinge panel whenever you open and close the doors.

As a precaution. I checked how the hinges moved and ‘operate’ as I opened and closed the doors carefully for the first few times.  Fortunately the doors just barely ‘cleared’ the hinge panels.  Basically, just don’t be too rough with opening and closing the doors.

Fourthly, which I forgot to get close-up photo of, the Superleggera’s seats now come with cute little sporty-looking seat belts!  They are Y-shaped at the top and a crossed-shaped at the bottom to better secure the passengers in at ‘high speeds’.  The seat belts are an additional piece of soft rubber-like plastic each, and not merely molded onto the seats.  Cool!

Last but not least, the Superleggera’s sports rims are now black, which give it the street car look, coupled by its black door stripes which have the word “Superleggera” on each stripe.  (I didn’t manage to get clear shots of the “Superleggera” wordings on the stripes).

Here we have my Lamborghini Gallardo which has 4 parts where you can open up.  I also wish to emphasize that perhaps due to the worldwide rising costs of raw materials, the 1:24 scale Bburago Superleggera now costs SGD 22.90, instead of its previous SGD 19.90!  So basically, you are paying SGD 3.00 more to get 2 extra stripes, an extended plastic spoiler, cute little seat belts and minus one function where bonnet can no longer be opened.  In short, this is terrible!

Nevertheless, despite the increase in price, collectors other than myself are still buying these model cars.  It’s like an addiction, or pure admiration for a supercar model.  There were only 2 yellow 1:24 scale Superleggeras and 4 bronze 1:24 scale Superleggeras at the store where I picked up mine.  I believe 2 yellow ones had been sold before I came along.  No other departmental store were found to be selling the 1:24 scale Bburago Superleggera’s yet, as of last Friday.

You can view more photos of my 1:24 scale Bburago Superleggeras in my previous post yesterday.
