STGCC 2011 - Ticketing counters & Hot Toys queue

Today is the first day of the 2-day Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC) 2011, being held once more at Suntec Convention Centre!  Like the past 3 years, I made my way there today to observe the atmosphere and here’s the blog post for today:

STGCC 2011 - Signage.

Upon reaching the ground floor foyer of the main convention hall, we are greeted by this very beautiful STGCC lighted signage filled with DC Comics characters!

STGCC 2011 - Ticketing Counters.

When I reached the 3rd floor where the ticketing counters are (at just before 10.30am), my first reaction was that the queues looked like a breeze to go through!

STGCC 2011 - Hot Toys Queue.

And then when I turned my head to follow where that longest was leading to, I saw this! OMG, what are they all queuing for!? Let’s take a closer look at those 2 signages.

STGCC 2011 - Hot Toys Signage.

Here’s the 1st sign and it explains most of the question!

STGCC 2011 - Hot Toys Signage.

And these 3 macho guys are what all those visitors are queuing for (priced at SGD 299.90 & only 500 of each available for sale)!  Later inside the STGCC convention hall, I heard from my contacts that the queue to purchase the above 3 exclusive Hot Toys actually started on Friday afternoon!  As people weren’t allowed to be inside the building overnight, they only managed to re-enter the building to continue queuing at the 3rd level when the building opened its doors at 6.30am!

STGCC 2011 - Ticketing Counters.

The ticket counters had separate queues for normal ticket purchases (w/o getting the piping Hot Toys), for promotions or contests (e.g. cosplay), VIP tickets, internet ticket bookings, and of course for the highly coveted exclusive Hot Toys purchasers!

STGCC 2011 - Ticketing Prices.

Here are the actual day ticket prices, no increase from the online pre-booked ticket prices, unlike last year.

STGCC 2011 - Hot Toys Queue.

Behind the cashiers is another long queue, though at least this one’s moving very smoothly!

STGCC 2011 - Hot Toys Queue.

So this is the queue for VIP Ticket holders (ticket prices worth SGD 40.00)!

STGCC 2011 - Hot Toys Collection Point.

Later inside the convention hall at the rear corner, I came across the collection point for the Hot Toys.  I stood near the counter and all of the purchasers bought 1 set of the 3 collectible figures.  The counter staff kept giving the same instructions to their packing colleagues behind, “1 set!”.

Upon collecting their prized purchases, nearly everyone opened the boxes carefully on the floor next to the collection counters to check their figures, watched eagerly by the other purchasers who were still in the queue!  Those toys aren’t cheap, so it pays to check them first before leaving!

STGCC 2011 - Trio of Exclusive Hot Toys.

And the “heroic trio” that caused all that queuing madness were on display at the collection point.  Too bad I couldn’t get clear close up shots of them as it was a struggle to jostle with numerous other photographers who just keep appearing from everywhere!

The above are what I have to blog about for this post.  I shall continue to blog about the other toy observations I made at the STGCC 2011 over the next few days.  The convention is from 20-21 August 2011.  Happy toys admiring and collecting!

STGCC 2011 - Exclusives & New Products!

View the long list of exciting exclusives and new products prepared for fans and collectors at the coming STGCC 2011!  Hope you get to acquire your desired items there next weekend! Happy waiting for the convention everyone!

STGCC 2011 - Singpost & Tokidoki My Stamp - Zip & Cody!

Tokidoki My Stamp 2011.

Here we have another Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC) collaboration between SingPost and Tokidoki - the above pair of postal superhero and his faithful (or rather hardworking canine sidekick) - Zip and Cody (must have gotten their names from “zip code”, LOL)!

Their red, white and blue costume colors and designs make them look like a cross between Captain America and Thor, LOL!  There’s even a “flag” design resembling that of our neighbouring Southeast Asian neighbour, Indonesia on the hero’s helmet too!  I presume it’s because our government restricts the use of our Singapore flag on merchandise, so that’s why the “flag” design on the helmet is missing our beloved stars and crescent moon!

This set of Tokidoki figures, like other figures of this brand are not specifically made for children to play with, but rather for older or adult collectors. They cost quite a sum at SGD 49.90 per set, so they are definitely for more the serious toy collectors!

The pair will debut at the upcoming STGCC 2011, happening on 20-21 August 2011 at Suntec Convention Centre.  Tickets can be pre-ordered from the STGCC 2011 website or bought from the ticket counters at the venue on the actual days.

Happy waiting for the highly anticipated STGCC 2011!

…for this!  AKB48 is Japan’s leading girl idol group and they are here to perform their latest songs, play games with their fans, and provide autographed copies of their latest albums.  It’s indeed worth it for their fans to queue up for this opportune moment to get up close and personal with their favourite stars!

My blog post shall be about the Cosplay and Movie Characters Replicas seen at the STGCC 2010.  Be back soon to read and view them!

STGCC 2010 - Ticketing booths and hall entrances

Today is the first day of the 3rd annual Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC) 2010 and I was there to attend the event!  I was fortunate to be provided with a Media / Blogger pass that gives me free entry to the event, many thanks to fellow toy blogger LEon of Open The Toy for helping me out on this!

STGCC 2010 - Ticketing booths.

Upon arrival, you will surely notice the extra grand ticketing booths at level 1 of the Suntec City Convention Centre, complete with the ultra gigantic banner above it.  You wouldn’t need confirmation with the staff if you’re in the right venue, for it’s all so big for you to see!  Each ticket now costs SGD 15.00 if you buy it from here.

STGCC 2010 - Ticketing booths.

This is the top view of the same ground floor ticketing booths area as seen from around level 3.  Having tickets for this year’s event means that more manpower and staff have to be deployed for this round.

STGCC 2010 - Hall entrances.

This is the nice and informative twin archway outside Hall 401.

STGCC 2010 - Hall entrances.

This is where members of the media and cosplay contestants go to register themselves outside Hall 401 before they enter the place.

Then beside the media and cosplay counter is the one-way entrance to Hall 401.

STGCC 2010 - Hall entrances.

Next to it is the exit of Hall 401, also manned by a staff.

STGCC 2010 - Events board.

Just outside and between Halls 401 and 402 are a series of events boards that list all the notable events for all the 3 days and their timings.

STGCC 2010 - Hall entrances.

Here is the smaller single archway outside Hall 402.

STGCC 2010 - Hall entrances.

There is also 1 door for entry, and another for exit.  The staff will make sure that you go in and out of the events hall via the correct doors.

STGCC 2010 - Hall entrances.

Here is sSomething for all ticket holders to take note of when they choose to re-enter the event halls on the same day.  And yes if you have been to any other events held in such adjoining halls at the Suntec City Convention Centre before, both the halls are connected inside.

Are you feeling exciting about what’s beyond those doors to the STGCC 2010?  I shall reveal and blog about them tomorrow.  Come back again to read them!

What’s next after Toy Carnival at SAM?

3-day pass: *SGD 21.40.

*Prices include GST.

Tickets are also available at AXS, SAM Machines and SingPost offices.

Yes it was free entry to this annual event for the previous 2 years but for this year, you’ll need to purchase a ticket to attend it.  However if you recall for those past 2 events, free entry meant that the aisles ended up too tightly packed on the weekends with people for everyone to enjoy a decent walk through to view all the booths and exhibits properly.  Let’s see if paid entry is indeed a more viable decision for this year, not just less in congested walkways, but also in terms of visitor attendance, plus overall sales and revenue for the organisers and exhibitors too.

If all goes well, I shall be there on those 3 days to cover the major booths and happenings there and share them with my readers on my blog.

So be there or be left out!
