Iron Man 2 movie toys preview by Hasbro at Toy Fair 2010

Wow, take a look at the Iron Man 2 movie toys preview filmed during the recent Toy Fair 2010!

I like the Iron Man race car and mobile headquarters (reminds me of the Pit Mobile HQ playset of the 2009 G.I.Joe movie toyline but smaller).  The Iron Man helmet and remote controlled Iron Man toy look great for kids!

We should expect to see the Iron Man 2 movie vehicles toys and role playing items in local departmental stores in the coming months leading to the movie sequel in May 2010.

Happy viewing the video and happy waiting for the toys to hit local mass retail!

Toy Fair 2010 - Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen toyline preview

Attention all fans and collectors of Hasbro’s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) toyline!  Hasbro has revealed the list of its upcoming Transformers toyline at the recent Toy Fair 2010 in New York City, US.

The following are the YouTube videos of the ROTF toys we expect to see at mass retail for 2010, filmed at Toy Fair 2010:

Toy Fair 2010: ROTF Deluxe Class Figures preview -

Battle Blade Bumblebee (another one to add to my collection!), Jetblade (repainted ROTF Deluxe Dirge), Ironhide (he looks nicer than ROTF Deluxe Ratchet!), Thrust (wow he’s got huge wing missiles!) & Drift (fans of this car model will adore him!).

ToyFair 2010: ROTF Battle Ops Bumblebee preview -

He’s not a rumour anymore, he’s real and coming soon! And probably expensive too.

Toy Fair 2010: ROTF Legends Class Figures preview - coming in 3rd quarter of 2010.

Ravage (he’s very cute!), Long Haul (wow I’m surprised he’s in a new mold, considering Hasbro’s favourite practice of using repaints instead), Rampage (another new mold, yay!), Bumblebee (a repaint) and Fireblast Optimus Prime (a repaint).

Toy Fair 2010: ROTF Leader Class preview - Starscream (did he poke his head into the fireplace!?), Buster Optimus Prime etc.

We also see a glimpse of ROTF Human Alliance (HA) Jazz w/Captain Lennox figures and a repackage of ROTF HA Bumblebee w/Sam figures (see next video); a yellow repaint of ROTF Voyager Long Haul and ROTF Voyager Ratchet (he also looks charred, did the staff retrieve this toy from a bbq pit!?).

Toy Fair 2010: ROTF Human Alliance Jazz w/Captain Lennox Figures preview -

We see the next Transformers movie toy series after ROTF NEST is “Hunt for the Decepticons”, in new yellow packaging.

HA Bumblebee w/Sam figures will be re-released, this time accompanied by HA Jazz w/Captain Lennox figures, and a dark colored bike!

So I supposed that leaves a possible HA Jolt with Leo figures in the near future!

Toy Fair 2010: ROTF Scout Class Figures preview -

Quoted from Seibertron.comHubcap (looks like Greaser, turns into 1950s roadster), Brimstone (looks like Cybertron version but transforms into a chopper - motorcycle), Crankstart (Beachcomber mold), Backfire (Knock Out repaint), Insecticon (from the movie) and Breacher (meant to team up with Voyager class).

If you are excited about the above Transformers toys coming soon at mass retail, start saving up more money in your monthly toy funds now!  Happy Transformers toys collecting for 2010!

Outdoor displays at the Singapore Airshow 2010

Following my blog post from yesterday, there are the photos I took of the outdoor displays at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

If I misnamed any of the displays, I do apologise for that and please correct me.  I’d appreciate that.  I took so many photos that after a while, I can’t tell most of the displays apart from one another.

I did my best to take photos together with the labels of the exhibits.  For those that I didn’t, I used a guide booklet that I got from the venue to identify the displays.  But sometimes the photos in the guide booklet are taken from different angles, that I still needed some guess work.

AH-64 Apache display at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

RSAF AH-64 Apache display.  One of these Apaches performed a combined aerial display with a F-16 that day!  The Apaches also perform during our annual Singapore National Day in August.

Another long queue of visitors formed nearby to sit and pose for photos inside the cockpit of the RSAF F-16D display.  Generally people are more interested in the military aircraft.  I wonder if they can “feel” the “killer energy” emanating from these war machines?  Well I guess that’s part of “thrill factor”.

Private Jet display at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

I can’t identify this passenger jet display.  The main reason why I took its photo because of the next photo that follows…

Visitors seeking shelter from the sun at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

…visitors seeking shelter in the shade of the aircraft wings from the scorching sun!  It was indeed terribly hot that day.  A perfect weather with clear skies for aerial displays but sweltering for walking about on tarmac ground with no trees nearby!

KC-135 display at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

I can’t identify this aircraft either.  The main reason for taking its photo is once again due to…

…the aircraft crew seeking shelter from our Singapore sunny weather!  It also shows how huge this plane is.

AH-6 Little Bird display at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

They call this mini helicopter “Little Bird”.  The name sounds rather cute until you see the artillery attached to the sides.  Then you wonder if it should be named “Lethal Bird” instead!

Visitors seeking shelter from the sun display at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

Anoher plane I can’t identify.  I took a photo because of the little red ribbon-like streams attached to parts of the jet.  They remind me of mini red couplets decorations for Chinese New Year!

Here’s another passenger jet on display.  Can you see the visitors sitting under the cockpit?

This sheltered area comes with a red carpet too!  It sure beats sitting on the hot tarmac ground!

The helicopter displays by Eurocopter.  They look like the ones used for the Grand Canyon helicopters tours  that I saw at Las Vegas in the US last year!

C-130J Hercules display - an even larger military plane.  I was informed that our NS men ride in one of these all the way to Taiwan for training.  They all had to sit knee to knee inside the cramped space for the entire trip!

Carnival game stall at the Singapore Airshow 2010.

One of the many games stalls at the outdoor family carnival area.  The kids were having fun racing one another and winning prizes for the efforts!  They didn’t seem to be bothered too much by the heat of the blazing afternoon sun overhead!

——-

I brought back some souvenirs (including sunburn) from my visit to the Singapore Airshow 2010.  Most of them were reading materials which I will send for recycling soon after I’m done reading them.  Without those brochures and booklets, most of the description of this blog post and the one yesterday wouldn’t be possible.

The shuttle bus rides arranged by the organisers were comfortable and prompt.  No waiting time was required as I arrived at Changi Airport Terminal 3 at around 9am and left the Airshow venue at around 3pm during the second repeat aerial performance (I’d already seen the first same performance in the morning).

Food and drinks stalls were readily available when you need them.  Queues to sit in the military vehicles and other interative displays were rather long but orderly.  There were ample clean washrooms in the air conditioned exhibition hall.  Overall the organisers did a great job to leave me a good impression for my first visit.

Only the blazing sun and scorching heat of the day proved too much for some people like me.  You don’t see much of it in the photos, but the sunshine was super glaring and burning hot.  I received some souvenir sunburns on parts of my skin where I didn’t cover thoroughly with my sunblock.

This year, the aircraft performances were done by a single aircraft at a time, except for the Apache & F-16 combined aerial display.  I hope to see more spectacular group aerial displays for the Airshows in 2012 and beyond.

I hope you’d enjoyed my coverage of the Airshow.  The Airshow will be back again in Singapore in 2012.

Meanwhile the next military aircraft and naval display I can think of will be during our Singapore National Day in August, and on selected Saturdays leading to it.  If you love such performances, you can head down to the Marina Bay area to view them.  Just keep a look out in the local newspapers nearer to National Day for the exact dates and timings!

Indoor displays at the Singapore Airshow 2010

The Singapore Airshow 2010 is opened to the public this weekend and I was there to soak in the sights and sounds on display there.  Here are the photos of some indoor exhibits that I took.

More ammunitions display.  Seeing these “giant bullets” makes one feel kind of sad that such things have to be made.  If only humans could live in harmony in this world, then the weapons industry ideally wouldn’t need to exist.  But the real world’s not like that…

Avatar Interactive Battle Pack Set

This is a follow up on my earlier blog post on “Avatar Toys Augmented Reality Demo“.  I’ve seen the above Avatar item on sale online and wondered how does it really work?  Then I got my answers when I found the following YouTube videos:

Avatar toys i-Tag Battle Pack: Battle Stumbeest vs AMP Suit.

At the moment, the level of technology only allows limited and continous repetition of a fixed set of movements on these 3-D images.  I’m sure in the near future, so much more could be potentially achieved in this field!

When you see these videos and if you didn’t know how such augmented reality stuff actually works, you could have easily thought that those 3-D images had physically materialized above the i-Tags!  In actual fact, they only materialized virtually on your computer screen when you activate those i-Tags with your webcam.

Avatar toys i-Tag Battle Pack: Neytiri’s Banshee vs RDA Samson Gunship.

If only these 3-D images could materialize in our real world when we activate those Avatar i-Tags.  It would be even cooler if we could also control the actions of these 3-D images to fight an opponent Avatar i-Tag!  This would be more advanced than how those Digimon games of the 90’s (where you could make 2 Digimon characters fight together on the same screen when their game consoles are physically connected!).

Avatar toys i-Tag Battle Pack: Navi’s vs RDA Soldiers.

Oh my, those Navi’s are so tall when they are to scale with the humans!  But in a real fight against soldiers with such modern weapons, the Navi’s are no match unless they take the soldiers by surprise in an ambush.  Fortunately these are virtual images and no ones gets hurt, phew!

——–

In a way, the Avatar battles between the humans and the Navi’s remind me of the early days conflicts between the cowboys and the native Americans (aka Red Indians).  I observed (when I watched American TV shows made in the 60’s and 70’s) that little American boys in those decades liked to role play the cowboys vs native Americans gun and arrow fights.

Back then, the latter were viewed negatively as “savages”, much like how the bad humans in the Avatar movie viewed the Navi’s.  Of course those past decades were the times when people were less sensitive about ethnic tolerance issues in the US.  Now people are more aware and accepting than before.  Hopefully the Avatar movie manages to reinforce the important of human harmony in our real world.

Last but not least, I leave you with this video on the 3-D i-Tag image of the Pandora landscape.  Watch what happens to the image when the i-Tag is removed from below it (yeah I was surprised by the result too)! Enjoy!

Make your own Transformers Movie Bumblebee paper model!

I found this video some time back and then lost the link.  Now I just re-discovered it and decided to share it here.  Making this paper craft model of Transformers Movie Bumblebee is mainly for the paper craft enthusiasts and ultimate Bumblebee fans!  The model parts illustrations and instructions can be downloaded for free!  In return you can choose to donate a token sum to encourage the creator for the efforts involved.

Making paper models is a lot cheaper than the plastic toys most toy collectors buy.  For me, I don’t have the patience to do this.  Nevertheless if you are adventurous enough and have the time to spare, why not go ahead and make you own Movie Bumblebee figure from paper?   For the X-Men fans, the creator also has the instructions to make a paper model of the Blackbird Jet!  Cool!

Happy toy making!
