Christmas light up in Orchard Road 2009
This year, I chose to spend my Christmas Eve at Orchard Road to admire and take photos of the Christmas light up along most of the road. The theme for this year is “A Christmas All Decked Out”.
The entire light up is segregated into 3 color zones. They consist of the Blue Zone inhabited by Frosty the Snowman, the Orange Zone dominated by Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, and the Red Zone represented by Santa Claus himself!

Our newest shopping mall in Orchard Road - 313 @ Somerset, which just opened in December 2009!

This photo was taken across the road of 313 @ Somerset. Orchard Central shopping mall (seen in the background) is right next to 313 @ Somerset.

Giant Santa Claus stands at the intersection of Orchard Road, where Tangs Shopping Centre (seen in the background) is located.

The Christmas Eve crowd in front of ION Orchard at around 8pm is huge! I was glad that I didn’t have to walk through that stretch of Orchard Road that evening!

Here’s a view of the Christmas light up in front of Tangs Shopping Centre (seen on the left).

Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer stands proudly at the orange lights section of the Christmas light up in Orchard Road.

Another Christmas light up view. This time it’s near 1 of the 2 towers of Ngee Ann City.

The enormous Christmas Tree in front of Paragon Shopping Centre is gorgeous and is a crowd pleaser!

This is where I bought my ticket for the “Hippo Christmas Light Up Tour” (an open top double decker bus ride). It is situated beside to UOB bank along Orchard Road, and UOB Bank is next to John Little.
It costs SGD 10.00 per adult and is free for tourists (but limited free seats for tourists) and it lasted about half an hour. This was how I managed to snap almost all the photos you see here, without becoming stuck in the dense crowd.

Here is our guide for the Hippo bus ride I took. I can’t recall her name, but she did a great job in hyping me up for the Christmas Eve mood! Thanks to her!

That’s the Hippo bus I took. I managed to snap its fleeting photo while it was being driven away after the ride.

You can also take some nice shorts of the Christmas light up down Orchard from the roadside. Here’s 1 of them taken in front of 313 @ Somerset (left of photo).

The lights were beautiful but the crowd was a big headache…:)
I find this year Orchard road deco very nice as compared with the last few years. It’s more colourful and have more Christmas spirits!
But like what Little Plastic Man had said…”the crowd was a big headache”
Hi Little Plastic Man & Astro Galaxy,
Yes, the size and density of the crowd was indeed sheer madness on Christmas Eve. Luckily I was on the Hippo bus. After that, I went to browse the new shops at 313 @ Somerset.
Man, that place is the latest ladies’ new favourite “fashion mall” of Orchard Road. Guys with girlfriends and wives in tow should take note when you are near it. The ladies all can’t wait to dash inside, LOL!
[...] have Christmas turning round the corner. Our main shopping belt at Orchard Road is already lighted up with Christmas decorations. They started earlier this year to dress up the street for the APEC meeting taking place in the [...]
I avoid going out on Christmas Eve and New Year Eve every year
Hate BIG CROWD!!
Hi deSMOnd,

Hi Hippo,
Yup, that’s your bus indeed!
our christmas lights this 2010 would be made up from light emitting diodes which does not generates so much heat*-~
Hi,
Thanks for the info! Will view them when they’re are up in Orchard Road!
Hi, Neat post. There’s a problem with your web site in internet explorer, would test this… IE still is the market leader and a big portion of people will miss your great writing due to this problem.
Hi pandorajewelrymarket,
Thanks for your feedback. I’ll look into this!
P.S. If you’re referring to why so little writing and mostly photos in my latest postings, that’s because I couldn’t spare time to blog in detail due to busier work and studies schedule since last June …
