Free gift redemptions at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008

There were 4 sessions of free gifts redemption during the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008 on last weekend and I went to redeem at 3 of the sessions.  Here are the breakdown of items that I received, after literally queueing for hours with my friends, because of the somewhat expected overwhelming response to free gifts!

Items received at Session 1 on Saturday, 27 June 2008, at 2pm:

Blank Tofu and Gundam Mini Pack redeemed for free at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008

They were a ‘blank’ Tofu figure and a Gundam Mini Pack.  The ‘blank’ Tofu figure was given out to everyone who redeemed whereas we couldn’t get to choose which of the 4 available Gundam toys we preferred.

My friends and I were lucky that the main Gundam character was being given out when it was our turn.  However this vintage Gundam figure is a build-it-yourself kit which is completely white with no stickers, and so you had to add the colors yourself.

The 4 Gundam toys and the ‘blank’ Tofu figure for redemption on that day are shown here:

Actually I preferred the red-colored Gundam villain character (sorry I don’t know its name) but it wasn’t available to me.  I figured that if I do fix it up, there would be less points to ‘color’.

Items given out Session 2 on Saturday, 27 June 2008, at 5pm (which I decided to miss out):

‘Kid Robot’ toy for redemption at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008Magicster toy for redemption at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008MINDstlye toys for redemtion at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008

From left to right: Kid Robot, Magicster and MINDstlye toys.  It was my first time knowing and meeting these toys, hence I’m unfamiliar with them.  I’m hardly into Japanese toys anyway.

Items received at Session 3 on Sunday, 28 June 2008, 2pm:

Duel Deck Magic Cards (Elves vs Goblins) and Mugen Magazine redeemed for free at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008

Above: Duel Deck Magic Cards (Elves vs Goblins) and Mugen Magazine/Comic Compilation.  This has to be the best lot of free gifts amongst the 4 sessions.  I don’t play Magic Cards and this free starter kit is like a ‘bait’ to get newbies hooked on the game so that they might end up becoming loyal ‘addicted’ customers of Wizard of the Coast.

Anyway, these 2 items are still mint-in-package and I haven’t decided on what to do with them.  I’m likely to read the magazine (or comic) soon and then recyle it.  For the Magic Cards, they are just a collectible set of items to me.

Items received at Session 4 on Saturday, 28 June 2008, 5pm:

STRANGEco The Vivisect Playset: Ledkins and Battle B-Daman Comic book (Issue 1) redeemed for free at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008

Above: STRANGEco The Vivisect Playset: Ledkins and Battle B-Daman Comic book (Issue 1).  The Ledkins figure is still Mint-in-box, MIB and it looks like a hideous 2-headed monster.  I find its appearance very disturbing, hence I’m leaving mine MIB and will likely sell it.

Other items that I missed out at Session 4 on Saturday, 28 June 2008, 5pm:

Naruto for redemption at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008

The above are actually a Naruto Nintendo DS Stylus and its matchng pouch for a gamer’s handheld gaming console.  There were also a few variants of Raving Rabbids finger puppets (a white rabbit character that come in various very disturbing facial expressions) available for redemption.

In this session, the STRANGEco toy was given out to everyone who redeemed but each person could only choose one of the other 3 items.  When the the Naruto and Rabbids items ran out towards the end of the session, the Battle B-Daman Comic Book was given out instead.

I initially got the Naruto Stylus but I traded it with my friend for the comic book instead.  I had no use for the stylus and I’m not a Naruto fan.  Unfortunately our group didn’t manage to get hold of the Naruto gaming console pouch that that my friend wanted as well.  If only there was a trading corner at the convention for the visitors to trade their free gifts with one another for the ones that they preferred.
