Happy Chinese New Year and Happy Valentine’s Day!

ROTF Deluxe Battlefield Bumblebee figure.

It’s the first day of Chinese New Year today, which also happily coincides with Valentine’s Day this year.  This coincidence happens only once every x number of decades!

Happy New Year to everyone who celebrate Chinese New Year!  According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, 2010 is year of the Tiger!

And Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone as well!

The traditional Chinese New Year celebrations in the olden days actually last for 15 days.  The Chinese back then didn’t rest on Saturdays and Sundays until the introduction of the western calendars to this part of the word.

Hence when they have festive celebrations like Chinese New Year, the holiday period usually lasted for many days.  Besides, people in those days needed time to travel vast distances back to their hometowns across China for reunion dinners (held on the eve) and annual gatherings with their families and relatives.

Today and here in Singapore, the first 2 days of Chinese New Year are public holidays.  Hence many businesses and retail outlets here (and in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan especially) are closed for the holidays.  The stock markets in these countries are closed as well.

Just like the previous years, my blog will take a break today and tomorrow (14 & 15 Feb 2010), while ToyzToSell.com still remains open for business.  Please feel free to send in your email enquiries about my toys for sale there and you will be attended to on these 2 days as well.

Please note that Toy Outpost will be closed on 14 & 15 Feb 2010, and will re-open on 16 Feb 2010.  I’ll also be re-stocking my toy lockers this coming week, hence you can check them out for new ponies and other toys by next weekend!
