Hasbro at the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention 2008
I checked my copy of the events guide book and found the floor plan of the Singapore Toy and Comic Convention detailing the locations of all the exhibitors, their booths and various events venues. The Hasbro booth was very near the entrance and looked to very big on the floor plan.

I know from my past experience with Hasbro Singapore, that its office here is very inactive in toy collectors matters. Hence I only half expected to see its booth containing some toy collector’s collections and the rest would probably be filled with some of the more popular Hasbro products like Transformers, Star Wars, My Little Pony (which I collect), Littlest Pet Shop and such.

To my utter disapointment, the whole entire booth only contained a collector’s vast Star Wars collection, spanning from 1977 till now. Indeed, the collection was pretty impressive with its shear numbers of action figures, armies of storm troopers and ‘cramped’ display of large Star Wars vehicles of all shapes and sizes. However I am not a Star Wars fan and despite having watched all the movies, I never liked it enough to collect its toys. The display would have been a dream come true for Star Wars fans instead.

Honestly, I won’t consider this to be a Hasbro booth, but rather a Star Wars collection exhibition booth. Although Star Wars is by Hasbro, it was just merely an ’empty shell’ filled with someone’s toy collection, with no attempt by Hasbro Singapore to create its own business presence there. As far as I know, Hasbro Singapore is more of a coordinator to import Hasbro toys into Singapore and distribute to the retail stores here. It’s a role that any parallel importer can fufill and there are plenty of them here.

Basically my mood for the day was quite spoiled by the ‘Hasbro’ booth. Overall I felt worse than when I was queueing earlier with hundreds of people to enter the Hall. Despite my disappointment, I snapped some photos of the Star Wars toys. I had to admit that it is seldom you’ll get to see such a large Star Wars toys collection on public display but it’s too bad that I couldn’t really appreciate it.
