Have you ever felt “after toy purchase remorse” before?

Marvel Universe Modern Thor action figure.

Well, this usually happens for toylines that you are really into collecting.  But sometimes so many purchases of these “too fantastic to miss out” goodies all happening at around the same time, you suddenly feel kind of remorseful for spending quite a sum of $$.

However, you know that if you don’t strike while the iron is hot and secure those toys at the special prices before you, you’ll regret it even more when they are sold out.  So in way, both buying and not buying the toys make you feel bad, but you can’t help it.

Has this kind of “guilty of spending too much on toys” feeling happened to you before?  Feel free to share your toy buying experiences here!

Hi, first off I am quite a fan of your blog posts as not only are they down-to-earth and applicable to almost all collectors - feelings which occur to all of us which we just don’t know how to let out - these posts really remind me that I’m not alone when I go through some of these feelings which some might find rather “ridiculous” as well, they’re only “toys” right?!

The above post definitely applies to me when I realise that after purchasing an item, I could have saved the cash in a sense. However, down the road sooner or later you’d realise you made a good decision, one to be proud of even - be it a drastic increase in value of the figure in commercial terms or an increase in intangible value on a personal level which brings this unique feeling of satisfaction in you. It might turn out to be a bad decision getting this particular figure especially when two weeks later a mega-sale takes place or a month later the toy company decides to re-release the figure…but well, I would say life is all about “give and take” ;).

    Anyway, keep going!

Buy it so that my mind can relax. The funny thing is eventually I will buy it even if I try not to.

    Hi vig,

Thank you for reading my blog and for your encouragement! Other than sharing my thoughts on this hobby, I also gather or infer them from other collectors. It’s feels great to let the feeling out to feel better, especially to people who will understand what we go through :)

And I agree that our decisions to buy or not to buy certain toys may turn out to be timely or hasty decisions. Like they say - “life’s a gamble”. Sometimes when I buy “out of production” and “off the retail shelves” toys at a premium, I tell myself that at least I managed to get those toys, as long as the premium is still reasonable. It gives a kind of closure on that toy series for me :)

    Hi Hippo,

That’s because we can’t stop thinking about it when we eat, drink and sleep. So we must buy it so as to move on to something better! :P
