Hawkgirl’s wings

I just re-watched the Justice League episodes “Starcrossed” parts 1-3.  It is about Hawkgirl’s real purpose for coming to Earth.  Her hawk-winged people, the Thanagarians, appeared on Earth in these episodes by the thousands.

I realised that during the flight sequences of Hawkgirl and Thanagarians, their wings hardly flap while these hawk-winged characters are supposed to be hovering…

These characters are not like Superman and Wonder Woman who are ‘wingless’, and yet they can fly and hover without moving much of their bodies.   Logically being winged creatures like the birds, the Thanagarians are able to soar and glide without moving their wings if they supposed to be moving swiftly through the air.  However, no winged creatures can stay airborne in a spot without flapping their wings.

On countless occasions when I observed the flight and airborne battle sequences involving Hawkgirl and now the hordes of Thanagarians, their wings hardly move when they are flying.  Hence the Thanagarians look like they are weightless beings that float in the air.

The Hawkgirl action figure has non-poseable wings that just look ‘pretty’ but useless in play flight.  The unrealistic and stiff cartoon flight animation sequences serve to reinforce the fact that she does not really fly using her ‘ornamental’ wings.

Even the hundreds of little bats that flew out from Batman’s cave in “Starcrossed” flap their wings, so I am sure that the much larger and heavier Thanagarians need to move their wings more to aid in flight.

Therefore, Hawkgirl’s wings and those of her fellow Thanagarians puzzle me…

The Thanagarians ability to fly comes from the Nth metal. I think the wings just help.

Thanks for the clarification about Hawkgirl’s wings. I admit that I am not familiar with Hawkgirl’s background. I just read my JLA book that briefly mentioned the Nth metal and its anti-gravity effects on Hawkgirl and the Thanagarians. Therefore my above post has since been modified.
