Horsey memories from Toys ‘R Us members’ sale

Today, there was another Toys ‘R Us members’ sale at The Atrium, near the bus stop of Plaza Singapura.  I went there with my pony collector pal, hoping to snap up some My Little Pony toys at attractive discounts.  Alas there were no ponies at their sale again.  Well at least both of us went to check and confirm that.

As I also love horses, I spotted these cute TY Babies horses and gorgeous unicorns at the sale.  I picked out the best of their lots and even had impulsive thoughts of getting them instead, since I could also earn up to 3x of points with my Toys ‘R Us members’ card if I buy anything at the sale today.

The TY Babies plushes still cost the same as the ones sold elsewhere - at SGD 10.00 for small ones and at SGD 20.00 for the big ones.  The only so-called discount (or rather rebate) I can get today is the bonus 3x of points in my member’s card.  In the end I thought it over and decided not to indulge in such impulsive purchases.  Hence I only took with me their photos before I left the sale venue. 

There were lots of Lego box sets like the series from Star Wars, Indianna Jones, Ferrari F1 Racing, City set and space set etc.  I also spotted a whole rack of Transformers Animated action figures of the common characters, MegaBlock for Disney Cars, Thomas the Train toys, plus children’s educational and games CD-Roms.

The sale prices on most of the toys look to be around 20% off their regular retail prices but at least all their boxes and packaging are in very good conditions.  Like I mentioned earlier, it’s more of a sale that allows Toys ‘R Us members to earn more and accumulate points faster for eventual future rebates in the form of free Toys ‘R Us vouchers.  Hence the so-called discount will only be reflected in the future, depending on how much you spend now.  A clever marketing tactic indeed!
