How long do your latest acquired toys remain in your favour…

… before they are cast aside so that you can pursue the next new toys on your want list?

Don’t you feel like those ancient Chinese emperors who take in a new concubine each week or day, just to cast her aside after being in your favour for a very short while?  Then the toys go into ’storage’ in the back palace or ‘cold’ palace (place for the out of favour and forgotten concubines).

Many years later when you’re looking for something in your cupboard (or when the emperor goes for a walk in the garden), you find a toy that you forgot you even have (he chances upon a concubine whom he doesn’t remember ever meeting).  It’s like a “have we met before?” scenario, LOL!

ROTF Deluxe Ravage action figure.

Like a panther on the prowl, I go on a never ending vicious cycle hunt in search of the next new toys on my endless want list.  When I have finally gotten everything on the list, something else will appear to catch my attention and be added to my want list to hunt for.

Many a times I tell myself that I shall only collect a few nice pieces from a certain toyline.  Then somehow along the way, I ended up collecting nearly everything, including the freaking variants (which happen to look quite nice, even though the factories made a mistake in the colors!).  Fortunately, I have a monthly toy budget to keep me in check!

Sometimes I think that this toy collecting hobby freaks me out.  Do you feel that too?  Please feel free to share your thoughts and comments with me here.  I really need to know if I am, or am not alone in feeling like that.  Thank you for your contributions!

If I like that toy, I will keep it till I totally lost interest. I also will sell it when I have financial difficulties. Otherwise, it’s a NO to me :)

I totally agree with the first sentence of this article. http://www.julianaheng.com/its-the-thrill-of-the-toy-hunt-that-we-enjoy/ I LOVE the hunt. I’ve always enjoyed digging through bins of old goodies at flea markets, thrift stores, garage sales and conventions. It’s like being an archeologist looking for proof of some old toy making civilization.
When I was a child I had maybe 100 toys total, and I never tired of playing with them. Now that I am older and have thousands of toys, why do I feel the need to acquire even more? It’s the thrill of the hunt and the acquisition of something cool to brag about.
Your nephew might be on to something. I (very) recently got the idea to bring my camera on the toy hunt. When I see cool things I can decide to buy or simply photograph them. It’s also neat to document the ever changing (and sometimes expensive) toy market.
AWESOME article BTW, i’m glad to have just found your blog!

I wish to add that while we enjoy the thrill of the toy hunt, our wallets and pockets burn away… :(
