Is this Movie Voyager Starscream a variant?

Here’s a request to all Transformers toy experts, gurus, fans, collectors and everyone who is familiar with these toys, I need clarification about a variant Transformers Movie Voyager Starscream that I’ve come across.

Transformers Movie Voyager Starscream action figure - normal version.

This is the most common version of Transformers Movie Voyager Starscream seen in almost every online photos of him. Even video reviews of him on YouTube are of this version, which has light orange translucent eyes and back of the head, plus beigy colored legs.

Let’s take a look at a variant version of Transformers Movie Voyager Starscream with some slight differences in material or features, and color on him.

Here’s the front view showing his black colored legs (the part between the knees and feet).

Then we look at the back view, also showing his black colored legs (the part between the knees and feet).

Next we take a closer look at his face, showing his painted red eyes and some variant colors of his face. The normal ones I’ve seen in online photos have light orange translucent eyes, and the overall face paint are in lighter colors.

This is the back of the head, which is painted in opaque red like his eyes.

Hence do you happen to know if this red-eyed and black legged Transformers Movie Voyager Starscream is an official variant, or someone’s minor custom? If it’s a real variant, could it be a Takara version, or was this a re-released version that came out as part of a multi-pack special edition with other Transformers Movie action figures?

I think this is more likely a custom made starscream. Someone takes the 2007 version and repaint the colour on the head, eyes and legs. I am sure toy companies like Hasbro and Takara won’t paint such silly colours on their products. This is disgusting!!

Thanks for your input!

I thought this could be a custom too. The prototype photo of this Movie Voyager Starscream on the back of its original box packaging shows him in these variant colors. Hence I thought he could be an earlier production run. It’s open to speculation.

The red paint on the back of the head looks so much like machine-applied, like done in a factory rather than by hand. The paint application is too ’smooth’ and too perfect…a mystery…

Never trust the photo at the back of the card. Most of the time they will look different. You wish you had that version and the back of the card but No, they always give you something lesser quality.

Probably a custom.The first movie version Starscream that I know is the silver coloured deep space version and the japan released red Vardia (I think)..
