Justice League toys at Singapore McDonalds

Justice League toys at Singapore McDonalds.

I walked past this McDonalds outlet yesterday at IMM and saw that they now have Justice League Unlimited (JLU) ’toys’ promotion with their Happy Meals.  The JLU offer just started this week on Thursday.  The first 2 toys for this week are Superman and Hawkgirl.  The toys are acutally mini ‘boxes’ that contain some collectible JLU characters inside (not shown in the above photo).

Actually I was reluctant to take the above ‘pathetic ‘ toy display but as of today (3 Oct 2009), I swear to you that the Singapore McDonalds (McDs) official website is still showing their Happy Meal toys as the previous Doraemon ones, which is over already (The outside world had apparently moved on too fast for their cyberworld to catch up with).  Hence I took the above photo to show how the JLU McDs toys look like.

In the above photo, the current week toys on offer (Superman and Hawkgirl) are not on display there, but are on display next to the wall behind the counter.  This makes the toys too far to take a good look at before customers decide to buy them.  People would have easily mistaken that Green Lantern, Flash and Batman are available this week.  Furthermore, 3 other toys (Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter & Red Tornado) from the set are missing from the display case (Have they taken time off to go save the world!?).

I had been collecting some sets of movie tie-in toys that came with McDs Happy Meals for many years, and I have observed that in the past 3-4 years especially, the toy display cases at almost every McDs outlet is getting more “hideous” with time.  Their toy displays usually start off as quite presentable in the first week.  Then as the weeks past, some toys go missing from the display, while others have “fallen flat on their faces”.  Regular collectors of these fast food toys will surely agree with me.

That’s when the toy display cases become a pain to the customer’s eyes.  These are signs of utter neglect and “couldn’t care less” attitude.  What’s the point of making their TV toy commercials so appealing when customers get put off by the actual toy displays they see at the outlets.  Having unsightly and obviously neglected toy display cases defeats the purpose of having them at all.  Some outlets like the one at Plaza Singapura, have no toy display case at all!  (If there’s really one there, I can’t find it.  I would appreciate if you could describe its exact location to me, thanks!).

As the weeks pass, different outlets tend to have different toys available, depending on the demand and supply at those locations.  This makes toy hunting very tedious, especially if you had missed out on some toys from the previous weeks.  I’m sure the staff at the various outlets have been hounded by customers calling in to ask what and which toys they have on offer every week.  The staff must be wondering why some people don’t just go get a life instead of calling up to ask about toys…

Usually, the recommended plan to collect such fast food toys and not miss out on any in the set, is to visit a fixed outlet every week, instead of visiting every outlet you come across islandwide.  You only resort to searching islandwide if you missed out on some “previous toys” of the current set.

If the entire set is already over, then your best bet is to visit the Sunday Toy Market at China Square Central.  There are no guarantees that you can find the fast food toys you want there in your first visit.  Toy collecting is basically a hunting game.  If you have no patience for possible wasted trips or you expect dirt cheap prices at all times, then I suggest you get another hobby.  You’ve got to be at the right place at the right time to get what you want and at the price you are comfortable with.

Note: I’ve never given my feedback to McDs about their toy displays.  Let’s say if you give feedback that their food do not taste good, they would possibly look into it seriously.  If you give feedback that their toy displays need to be improved, they could be thinking that you must be very free and have nothing else better to do to notice such things = “nuisance caller”, LOL!

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has and is willing to let go Hawkgirl, Superman and Red Tornado as I urgently need it for a school camp I am organising on the 23rd November and plan to use it for as a cluebox for our treasure hunt game. (camp theme: super heroes)

Could you advise me how to go about calling up the Mcdonald branches? ._. I usually don’t collect toys and this time I stumbled by chance on the toys this week and decided to start collecting (which is very late already :( )

    HELP!!!!><!!!

    My email is tiny_pink_pig[at]hotmail.com

    Many thanks!

    Hi,

You can visit the Sunday Toy Market at China Square Central,

    http://www.chinasquarecentral.com/happenings.php

or visit Toy Outpost (Plaza Singapura, 7th floor) to check out the ad-hoc toys for sale there.

No guarantees, but you can go and take a look. These places give you the best chances of finding backdated McDs toys. Good luck! :)
