G3 My Little Pony toy review from 2003 till 2007

When the G3 My Little Pony toyline started in August 2003, each pony came with her own brush, plus a pony charm with string to tie around her neck or tie to her brush.

Gradually since 2004, Hasbro did away with the pony charm and strings, and finally in 2007, the ponies do not even come with their own brushes anymore!  E.g. 2003 MIB Wysteria vs 2007 MIB Wysteria.

2003 MIB Wysteria with her own brush plus pony charm and string.2007 MIB Wysteria with only a hair clip.

I wonder how does Hasbro expect kids who are getting their first pony in 2007 and in the subsequent years to groom their ponies’ manes and tails?

I firmy believe that all toys with brushable hair should at least come with their own brush or comb as a basic accessory.  Parents being more discerning buyers, will scrutinize the pony package to check what their children will actually be getting when buying a pony for them.

The retail price of a G3 My Little Pony started off as SGD 9.90 in 2003.  In the following years, the retail price per pony went up to between SGD 10.90 to SGD 14.90!  Fortunately since 2006, the retail price gradually steadied back to SGD 9.90 but pony buyers will now get ‘less’ in return, partly also due to rising costs and inflation.  At least the G3 My Little Pony toyline will continue into 2008.

For 2008, pony collectors around the world eagerly await the possibility of boy ponies or seaponies being released as part of the regular My Little Pony toyline.  We shall wait for the annual toy fair in early 2008 that will unveil all the various toy companies’ products for 2008!
