My visit to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead!

My visit to Hoover Dam.

That’s the famous Hoover Dam behind me!  It is situated at the narrowest part of the Colorado River, holding back the largest man-made lake in the world - Lake Mead.

One of the first things you see upon entering the visitor’s area inside Hoover Dam are posters like these.

Yes, Hoover Dam was featured in Transformers The Movie (TFTM).  According to this fictitious 2007 movie plot, the evil Decepticon Leader Megatron was kept in a secret facility under the Dam.

I’m sure Transformers fans remember seeing Hoover Dam and parts of Lake Mead in TFTM.  Even if you’re unsure, the posters remind you so!

These, if I recall correctly, are the turbines and generators inside Hoover Dam that convert the hydro energy into electrical power.

Do you find this bridge familiar?  I think Starscream flew under one of these bridges in TFTM.  He then transformed into his robot mode and landed on it.  It’s remarkable that the bridge could hold Starscream’s weight!  This was also the place where Sam bargained with Agent Simmons to clean off Mikaela’s juvenile records.

The water you see beyond the Dam is part of Lake Mead, where I went to take a paddlewheel ferry cruise directly after my Hoover Dam visit.  Once again, the sky was so blue and the sun was very glaring.

Oh yes, that’s how old Hoover Dam is!  When you visit the place, the tour guides and exhibits inside will explain to you how this megastructure was painstakingly built in the 1930s.

I took this shot during my cruise on Lake Mead.  The white part along the banks shows how much water the lake had lost in recent years due to lower rainfall and snow.  At some points, the height of the white areas looked to be more than 2 storeys high!

This is the Desert Princess, the paddlewheel ferry that I took for the cruise on Lake Mead.  It may look very sunny there, but when the wind blew while I was on the decks, it was quite cold that my hands felt numb!

Tomorrow, I shall blog about my visit to Universal Studios and Hollywood, the Entertainment Capital of the World!

    Hi LEon,

I think the All Spark & Megatron had all left the premises in 2007. Since then, the Dam had been ‘repaired’ to cover evidence of Transformers activity there :P
