Overheard along the toy aisle…
While browsing at one of the toy shops at China Square Central on Sunday, I overhead a father talking to his young son, who looked to be around 6-7 years old. The son was looking longingly at a string of Mint-On-Card (MOC) Movie Transformers Legends mini figures that were hanging from the ceiling of the shop, all the way to the floor. I happened to be looking at that string of Transformers mini figures, hoping to find green-colored Rachet amongst them but to no avail. Anyway, back to the father and son:
The father explained to his son that those toys are like the MOC toys that they have at home. He told his son that some people like to keep their toys in the packaging and do not open up the toys for play, because the toys look better this way. These are collectible toys, and they should leave such toys MOC. I think he also mentioned about the toy value or something like that. The son looked a bit confused by the strange concept that toys should remain in their packaging. He’s still too young to understand about the world of toy collecting. I hope that the father does buy some similar toys for his son to play with so as to take off the boy’s attention from the MOC toys at home!
I believe that it is possible to have kids and collectible toys co-exist peacefully under the same roof. You just need to introduce the collectible toys to the kids in a different way from the usual toys meant for ‘play’. Visitors’ kids are a totally differently story.
