ROTF Leader action figures - wave 1

The following ROTF toys are now available in our local departmental stores since their official launch on 30th May 2009!

Leader Class (SGD 109.90 each):

ROTF Leader action figures - wave 1.

Wave 1: Megatron & Optimus Prime.

 ——–

Preliminary popularity observations during the first 2 days of the ROTF toy launch over the weekend indicate that Optimus Prime is a “must have” hot favourite among toys collectors here.  Due to his hefty price tag, I doubt many parents are picking him up for their kids yet.  Besides, I read that the Leader Class Transformers toys are quite complex to transform.

I’ve seen ROTF Leader Optimus Prime featured on the recent “ROTF toy hauls” postings of quite a number toy bloggers, so I presume he will sell faster than Megatron.  One thing for sure, this Optimus Prime toy is the most movie accurate version, hence his popularity.  Both of these Leader Class toys also come with light and sound effects when you press down a switch on their chests.

Megatron looks cool in his ‘tank’ mode, but his robot mode is somewhat ruined by his puny left arm.  I guess he ran out of suitable spare parts salvaged from the ocean floor, so he had to make do with this undersized arm for now.  These Leader Class figures look way better out of their boxes, if you have the space to display them.

And therefore, the red edges out the grey in the early round.  It’s still too early to tell who’s the clear winner.  The huge price tag is quite a major consideration for many potential ROTF Leader toy buyers.  I believe most are waiting it out for a sale.  It’ll be definitely worth it to get either one or both of them at half price some day, if you can wait for that day to come.  Meanwhile, happy ROTF toy hunting!

Personally, I am not digging the new Megatron at the moment. However, my opinions may change after the movie. As for Optimus, I think I will wait for the premium version. I totally forgot about the premium line when I got my Soundwave until LEon reminded me about it. So I am going to wait (probably a long time) and get the ones I want in premium versions.

    Hi Jcee,

Most people who buy the ROTF toys before the movie are ‘betting’ that they’ll like the movie and the toys. The usual logic is to buy the toys after being impressed by seeing their characters in the movie.

However, many people are afraid of possible toy shortages during and after the movie, like for the 1st TF movie. So they grab the toys early this round.

For me, I picked up the Hasbro versions first to play, since these are supposedly not as good quality as the Premium series. Then when the Premium series are out in the stores, I’ll decide whether to collect those as MOCs :)

I still prefer the 1st Megatron until today as the current vehicle mode looks a little like the tanker in Metal Slug Arcade Game.

    Hi deSMOnd,

Maybe that’s where they got the movie inspiration :P

Actually Megatron’s tank looks like a Landmaster from Starfox hehehe!

The FAB can hold the title of Metal Slug though.

Optimus Prime… Possibly the Best Movie toy of Optimus yet! But I heard TakaraTomy will make another Leader Class Optimus, without the faceplate and has the gun!

    Hi Nicolai,

Wow, you’re very updated on your TF and ROTF toy news! Yes I read about the updated ROTF Leader OP too. I might get that one, since I don’t have a Leader OP yet :)

    Hi Nicolai,

Btw, I have a TF Movie 1 Legends Brawl for sale. He’s MOC and comes as a 2-pack with Legends Rescue Ratchet.

They’re in my toy lockers now at Toy Outpost (7th floor, Plaza Singapura)

Thanks for the offer, but I have to wait for my card first so I can make purchases hehehe…

Feel free to join us here, this is a big Transformers Collectors Community, but we discuss not only TF but other toylines as well!

And we surely need a girl collector like you gracing our threads!

But still, I advise you to Keep yourself updated on the NEW Leader Prime, they might throw in some new features for him!

Not gonna buy him though, I am happy already with my Twin Swords First edition ROTF Optimus, and I am waiting for my Jetfire!

For Megatron though, the Voyager is very articulate, and His Altmode is actually seen in the movie! But for the intimidating looks and size and firepower, the Leader Class Meg brings it. And I believe he is worth every Cent I paid for this! And I value it too coz, it was my first ROTF.

    Hi Nicolai,

Thanks for the invite! I’ll check it out :)

Yup, the new ROTF Leader OP is within my radar now! ROTF Leader Jetfire landed on our shores this week.

How much are the ROTF Leader toys at your place? They retail for SGD 109.90 each, which is around USD 75.00!! :(

    Hi Juliana!

Leader Classes are sold at around $45.00 here, but went back to 40 at before the fourth of July, then went back at 45.

Jetfire isn’t at my favorite store yet, I am eagerly anticipating to get him! So I can Power Up my Optimus!

However… OP may look sleek and accurate to the movie, but my only concern is that the piece that helps his window chest locks inplace can be broken easily in a wrong move…

So Durabilty and fun factors in my view… Megatron is my favorite among the two leaders! but I like Prime also, really big improvement from TF Movie 1, heck both of them are!

I’m ready to burn 80 dollars for this, I would just give my spare OP to my brother(who likes Prime)

  13. Juliana Heng on July 9th, 2009

    Hi Nicolai,

Wow, for that price, we can only buy 1 ROTF Leader toy here. I must wait for that kind of sale here! :D

  14. Nicolai "Megatron" Armado on July 9th, 2009

I plan to order that set once payday comes…. I’d order directly to that link hehehe.

    Hi Nicolai,

I think sometimes HasbroToyShop has discount coupon codes for the month :)

  16. Nicolai "Megatron" Armado on July 9th, 2009

    Yeah!

And I just recently bought a Gi Joe toy from the upcoming movie! coz No new decepticons in the store I go to! So I got tempted by that, and I also collect some favorites from GI joe like Scarlett, Duke, and Snake Eyes.

Note that the HTS OP and Jetfire set is not a boxed set but a value pack… I thought initially that it was a boxed set hehehe.

  17. Juliana Heng on July 9th, 2009

    Hi Nicolai,

You’re into G.I.Joe too? It’s another never-ending ‘treacherous’ terrain to tread for a toy collector :P

  18. Nicolai "Megatron" Armado on July 9th, 2009

Yup… but some characters which I like only, and I like the fact that there is a grunt unit for the Joe team so I can Army build me some.

Ok back to regular programming bout ROTF Leaders!

I think, exluding the Human Alliance Sets, the Leader Class is the best in ROTF toyline, I like large scale toys of OP and Meg, and It did not disappoint me!

    Hi Nicolai,

If space at home and the retail price here are not a major concern for me, then ROTF Leader toys are fine for me :)
