ROTF Leader Optimus Prime toy review

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) Leader Optimus Prime action figure
This is one very complex Transformers toy to ‘transform’ back and forth between its robot and vehicle modes. I think its package states that it’s suited for people aged 5 and above. I wonder how many kids actually have the high level of analytical skills and sufficient patience to ‘handle’ this toy. Even some parents are at a loss on how to ‘work’ this ‘high level’ skill ROTF Leader Optimus Prime!
Nevertheless, the high complexity level and hefty price (SGD 109.90 each) of this toy do not deter some loving (or should I say ‘clueless’) parents from buying them for their very young kids. It’s not surprising that some kids actually broke their toy on the first day of receiving them. You know that the younger the kids, the lesser patience they have. Even some adults still have no patience long after they had grown up. And many parents have obviously lost touch with the ‘evolution’ of toys these days.
Practice makes perfect!
In the above video review of ROTF Leader Optimus Prime, the reviewer took less than 10min to transform him back and forth between the vehicle and robot modes. However do take note that these reviewers had done many rounds of practice with this toy before doing the video reviews. Hence they are very fast in doing it. Most adult toy collectors take an average of around 1 hour to transform ROTF Leader Optimus Prime from robot to vehicle mode on their first attempt.
Getting started!
ROTF Leader Optimus Prime comes packaged in robot mode, and it is supposedly more difficult to transform him into vehicle mode than the other way round. If you can accomplish, this, getting him back into robot mode should be easier. The video starts with ROTF Leader Optimus Prime already in vehicle mode and so the reviewer starts off by transform him into robot mode.
Preview the transformation on YouTube first!
If you have just gotten your ROTF Leader Optimus Prime and are transforming him for the first time, it helps a lot if you view such YouTube video reviews at least once first. This will help your mind prepare for the steps to expect ahead, and to minimize the risks of breaking the parts if you happen to manipulate the wrong sections in the incorrect ways.
Re-play the video and practice on your toy!
Next , place your toy between you and your laptop or PC, and play the video again (in this case, replay the video from 13:22min onwards). As the reviewer does the steps, pause the video to do the steps on your toy and then continue the video, Then pause it again to do more steps on your toy. Keep up this procedure until you manage to transform your toy into the mode you want.
Be careful and be gentle with your toy!
Hope this toy tip helps in saving more ROTF Leader Optimus Prime toys from being accidentally broken during incorrect transformations. Do not depair if your kids have already broken their toy, some adult collectors also accidentally did. Hence it pays to be very careful and extremely gently when transforming this toy, and also most other Transformers action figures in the entire ROTF toyline. Have fun transforming your ROTF toys!

Good review and good advise on ROTF prime tips to transform.
it’s always good to check out toy reviews on youtube, as i am also doing toy reviews myself on Transformers. I must admit that it took me such a while to get him transformed! when the package said level 4, it must have meant, level 4 on patience.
ROTF Leader class prime comes on 3 versions:
This one ( the hasbro version) ,the Takara version (evidently it has a grey chest piece against this one thats red), and a Buster Optimus Prime, set to be released november. This Buster prime has chromed/sliver-ed paints apps, twins guns, and sports a mouth now.
Good review , cheers!
Ryan
p.s.: the truck mode picture above is not fully transformed. The upper part of the smokestacks are erect up, but the bottom-half below part is still tucked in beneath the gas tank, thereby revealing some of prime’s chest/rib parts.
Hi Ryan,
Thanks, you’re welcome!
I’m looking forward to seeing Buster Prime, but not his price
The photo above comes from EE.com. I think their staff or the photograpers they outsourced the photography job to, didn’t realise that the transformation was incomplete. Or they did that on purpose because of aesthetics
This toy is shit its way to hard to transform alwasy pops apart and can move very well this is probly one of the worst transformers i have ever bought and i collect the things
Hi that one guy,
The complex transformation process of such Leader class toys deters me from collecting them. If adults find it difficult to transform these toys, what about the kids!? But there are many collectors who still like them, so to each their own!
