Still having Olympics fever

I’m still being gripped by the current Olympics fever and I have never enjoyed it so much as now.  I even follow the Olympics coverage in my local newspapers every day.  In the past or rather on usual days, I don’t even look at sports news.

It’s exciting and interesting to observe how the best athletes of various sports and countries come together to vie for the much coveted medals at such a top level competition!  For many non-sports people, they might not think much of the Olympics, which is the ultimate level for athletes in the world of sports.

Top athletes are amongst the most empowered people in the world, as they need to push their mental states and physical bodies to the limits in order to excel in their respective sports.  Most non-competitive and non-sports people do not really comprehend and appreciate the reasons why athletes go into competitive sports, much less empathize with them on the enormous pressure and sacrifices needed in to order to stand on the podiums to receive the medals.

In life, we all have a lot to learn from these top athletes of the world.  Every athlete at the Olympics is of world class standard in order to qualify for the Games in the first place.  The winning athletes all had the same to say when interviewed, that is, they had dreamed of getting their medals since very long ago, some even since their childhoods.  Hence they worked hard at winning, never leaving their medal goals out of sight, even when they encountered numerous setbacks along the way.  In fact, it was mainly their gold medal dreams that kept them pressing on, even when others had unkind and dis-empowering words for them.

I find that very often the critics only know how to say or write criticisms, preferring to focus on the negative rather than on the positive.  The critics make it sound like it is so easy to excel and win.  How many of them have actually been out there to compete in the same high level competitions to really empathize with the athletes?  Hence the athletes can largely ignore those negative remarks and stay focused on their own goals.

For the rest of us, we also have our equivalent obstables in our lives.  It is a matter of how ‘hungry’ we are for our own ‘Olympic medals’ that will greatly determine our success.  No matter where you are in your life right now, may you be able to soon find your dedicated ’sport’ to excel in, set your Olympic gold medal targets, plan your strategies and then take the necessary actions to get there.  It’s not just about the hard physical work that you put in, but also the mental strength that you have within yourself to soldier on when setbacks are met.

To your success!
