Getting storage ideas from toy stores

While visiting the many toy shops in China Square Central, you’ll realise that the sellers all have their own preferred methods of displaying and storing their toys.  A toy collector can hence draw useful inspirations on toy storage ideas from them.

Almost every toy shop has at least a wooden display cabinet with many shelves, and with glass doors for easy viewing of the toys for sale.  Some have full glass cabinets.  Those sellers with lots of huge bulky boxed toys sitting in their shops would tend to stack those boxes from the floor, and even up till close to the ceiling!

All the shop owners have foldable tables which they bring out to display a portion of the toys outside their shops.  That creates more walking and browsing space inside the shops.  You should observe the shops before they are opened for business.  They all have loads of boxes, basket trolleys etc. stashed in the cramped shop spaces, with hardly any walking room.

Why am I describing all the above?  Well, if you happen to be new to toy collecting and you have not planned the storage for your toys yet, then your room’s gonna look like the toy shops very soon.  This is especially so if you fall under the“Rapid Growth” stage.

First, you’ll need at least a cabinet with as many shelves possible, and with glass doors to display your favourite toys without worrying much about dust.  Such cabinets shouldn’t cost too much.  You don’t really have to invest in expensive ones, unless of course your toys are the super expensive types and they cannot settle for any mere ordinary cabinet that is not ‘worthy’ enough for them to reside in.

Wooden cabinets with glass doors are the most practical and economical.  Full glass cabinets are great too but you need to put more effort in displaying your toys neatly, and preferably in themes.  If not, they’ll look very messy in there.  Although for wooden cabinets with glass doors, your toys also need to be displayed neatly, any untidiness is not as glaring as in full glass cabinets.

Display cabinets are best for storing loose toys but do not cramp too many of them in each space, unless of course you don’t care for aesthetics.  But being a toy collector, it’s always good to take some pride in your collection and make them look at least presentable.  If you have big problem in displaying them without making it seem like a mess, then it’s an obvious sign that you’ve likely run out of toy storage space in your home.

So what can you do at this stage?  Well come back again tomorrow for more tips and ideas on toy storage!

    Hi aziz,

Thanks for dropping by my blog! Being a huge store, TRU uses large open shelves and some glass cabinets to display their toys.
