The Great Singapore Sale has started!

Today is only the second day of the 2 month-long annual Great Singapore Sale, and the shopping malls and shops are crowded with shoppers eager to grab the best bargains as early as they can.  I met up with a pony collector pal today and we visited some of the malls in Orchard Road.

Today being a Saturday and also because of the Sale, all the shopping places were packed with people.  The month-long school holidays had just began today too and naturally the toys sections of all the departmental stores were filled with lots of kids and their parents, plus maids and grandparents etc.

It was a bit of a chore to visit the toy stores today because of the exceptionally larger crowds, but at least I got to view the latest Ponyville sets and the new G3 Scootaloo with her remote-controlled scooter set.  Alas I forgot to bring out my Toy ‘R’ Us voucher today so I’ll have to purchase the Ponyville pony, ‘Rock Star’ Starsong another time.

The stores were also very well stocked up with the new Transformers Animated figures.  My pony collector pal couldn’t resist and bought a cute Transformers Animated Bumbleebee figure.  Most toys were on sale, except for the Transformers Animated toys.  The stores are ‘clever’ to capitalize on the popularity of the latest range of Transformers toys, so the fans and collectors have to buy them at retail prices even during the Great Singapore Sale.  How sad…

However, the ‘last season’ Movie Transformers toys are finally on sale and you can still find some of the popular Movie figures like the normal yellow-colored Bumblebee figure at a discount (this one had a painting defect).  I also found 2 Stealth Bumblebee figures at 20% off but their cards had been badly bent.  I think someone did it on purpose to ‘reduce’ their potential resale value because all the other unpopular Movie figures around them had near perfect cards.

I was tempted to pick up some of the cute little Movie Transformers Legends mini figures that I still don’t have.  However they are sold as 2-packs where I only wanted one of the paired up figures.  I’ll have to get 3 sets of 2-packs just to get the 3 figures that I still lack.  The rest are repeated or variant figures that I don’t need.  I hope that Hasbro would sell the figures I want as single packs.  However if the discount for the 2-packs are attractive enough, I’ll just get them and end up with extra figures.  I’ll see how it goes as it is only the second day of the Great Singapore Sale.
