Toy Carnival 2009 at SAM
The Toy Carnival was held at the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) from 10am to 6pm yesterday and the place was super crowded! It was also my first time at SAM. The Carnival occupied 2 floors of air-conditioned halls within the white Colonial style building, which was used as a school in the past.
I expected the Toy Carnival to be very similar to the Sunday Toy Market at China Square Central (CSC), with more or less the same sellers and visitors attending it. Well, there were indeed lots of familiar faces and the toys on sale were the usual collectible toys at CSC.
There were many Cosplay Storm Troopers, plus their Commander and Darth Vader from Star Wars ‘patrolling’ the premises. I also came across ‘real life’ Masked Riders mingling and taking photos with the crowd! The open air courtyard section was dedicated to NERF guns stuff and games.
Towards the late afternoon while I was there, the sellers started giving more discounts on their toy wares. I found lots of Transformers Movie 1 toys on sale there! Alas, I ran out of cash so I couldn’t pick up all those Transformers stuff I wanted and had to let them go. I didn’t expect to have anything to buy since I went there so late, thinking that all the good stuff would had been sold by then.
I didn’t take any photos at the Toy Carnival as I was too busy looking at all the toys, fortunately many fellow toy bloggers who attended the Carnival did. You may click on the following links to read their blog posts and view their exensive collections of photos taken at SAM yesterday!

The organisers did a great job and I definitely look forward to having the Toy Carnival every year! The next major local toy event coming up this year shall be the Singapore Toy & Comic Convention (STCC), to be held from 13-16 August 2009, at Suntec City Convention Centre. It’s just a month away, hurray! And more toys to collect too!
