Toy collecting tip of the day - 5
Knowing the 5 stages of toy collecting. This helps you to understand the range of emotions you feel when you collect your toys. Every toy collector goes through all or some of the 5 stages of toy collecting - the Newbie, Rapid Growth, Nirvana, Guru & Casual stages. Which stage are you at now?
For some collectors, they find themselves in the Rapid Growth stage for a very long time. It varies from person to person, and from toyline to toyline. For other collectors who ‘jump’ from toyline to toyline, they go through most or all the 5 stages several times a year each time they start collecting a new toyline on hype.
Sometimes it feels like you’re being possessed. Others call this an “obsession”. The kinder people will refer to this as a “passion” or a “hobby”. So which is it? You decide!

hi…
Nice article on toy collecting. I do collect toys as well, but the past years I have already committed to collecting, gaming, painting miniatures.
I guess the rules for collecting still applies to most of the toy hobbies. I wrote an article on starting miniature collecting (http://wp.me/pnF9D-2J), but the rule is still to stay focus and define what you want to collect, types and categories, and not ending up collecting for the sake of collecting.
Meantime, back to my painting… Cheers!
Hi Kelvin,
That’s a nice and comprehensive blog you have!
I like your article too! Can I link it to my similar blog posts?
Just stumbled onto your blog. Great post, as a self-confessed obsessive compulsive collector of many things including toys, you have it spot on.
Hi Matt,
Thanks! It’s easy to get into the hobby but not as easy to manage it or quit it. A collecting hobby is about an obsession
